Robert Earl James, 66, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 1996, in Halifax Memorial Hosptial, Roanoke Rapids.
He was a native of Northampton County, and was former pastor of Bethlehem Christian in Hertford, N.C., and retired as pastor of Trinity Christian Church in Winton, N.C. Also he served on the Board of Directors at Open Door Christian Ministries in Crewswell, N.C. Mr. James was a former state president of the North Carolina Exchange Clubs. He was a 32nd degree Master Mason in the American George Lodge of Murfreesboro and had achieved the status of Grand Lecturer.
Survivors, include his wife, Marie Martin James of Murfreesboro; two sons, Robert Earl James Jr. and his wife, Lynda of Greensboro and Mark Timothy James and his wife, Angela of Durham; daughter, Ruth Anne Flanagan and her husband, A.B. of Murfreesboro; his mother, Estelle Mobley James of Windsor; two sisters, Ruth James Monsees of Portsmouth; and Dorothy James Williams of Murfreesboro; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Meherrin Baptist Church by Dr. Melvin Styons, Pastor Gene Woolard, and the Rev. Billy Sellers. Burial will follow in Conway Cemetery. A visitation will be held in the home of Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Flanagan, 408 Holly Hill Road, Murfreesboro from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Christian Church Building Fund. Bridgers Funeral Home Inc., Conway, is in charge of the arrangements.
