Master Chief Joseph Lewis Thomas Sr., 60, of East Little Creek Road, died Jan. 22, 1996, at 6:25 a.m.
He was a native of Covington, La. and the son of the late Alphense Thomas Sr. and Eula Evans Thomas. He retired from the Naval Amphibious Base in Norfolk after 31 years of distinguished service. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War Era. He was employed as a counselor of the City of Norfolk Detoxification Center. He was a member of the V.F.W.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy M. Thomas of Norfolk; son, Joesph L. Thomas Jr. of Lexington Park, Md.; three sisters, Bettye J. Palmer of Moreno Valley, Calif., Ida I. James of Covington, La. and Linda I. Alston of Gretna, La.; and one brother, Alphonse Thomas Jr. of Moreno Valley; one aunt, Willis L. Davis of Biloxi, Miss.; two neices he reared, Artisha Jones and Karen James; other nieces, nephews, great-nieces; nephews and relatives; and loyal friends.
Viewing and visitations will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Graves Funeral Home. A funeral service with military honors will be at Bethel Reform Methodist Church, 602 W. 29th Ave., Covington, La., at 11 a.m. Interment at Wilson Cemetery on Columbia Street. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
