An early-morning fire that destroyed a house and claimed one life Tuesday was caused by the victim smoking in bed, according to Jack Goldhorn, a spokesman for the Department of Fire and Paramedical Services.
The fire was reported about 12:30 a.m. in the 900 block of Lasser Drive. When firefighters arrived, they found the house engulfed by flames. A 70-year-old man who lived alone in the house was pronounced dead at the scene, Goldhorn said. The victim's name was not released.
