``The Lost Colony'' outdoor drama recently received a $20,000 challenge grant from the Kathleen Price Bryan Family Fund of Greensboro. The grant requires that The Lost Colony raise an additional $20,000 in new pledges and contributions from nongovernmental sources by Jan 1, 1997. The money will benefit the drama's $3 million endowment.
``The Lost Colony'' is America's first and longest-running symphonic outdoor drama. Written by Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Green, it tells the story of 117 pioneers who established the first English settlement in the New World on Roanoke Island in 1587, then mysteriously disappeared. It made its debut in 1937 and has played to more than three million visitors. by CNB
