At least four candidates will vie for the Third District seat on the Dare County Board of Commissioners, elections supervisor Lynda Midgett said Wednesday.
Southern Shores residents Martin Booth, a Democrat, and Paul E. Mericle, a Republican, both filed for the upcoming election on Wednesday. The Board of Commissioners has seven seats, with District 3 representing Duck, Southern Shores and Kitty Hawk. Each seat carries a four-year term.
Booth will face a primary run-off against Democrat incumbent Commissioner Sammy Smith of Kitty Hawk in May. Mericle will face Republican challenger Cheryl Byrd, also of Southern Shores.
