How inspiring of The Virginian-Pilot on Jan. 14 in the Sunday Break feature and again on Jan. 15 on the editorial page to have written so warmly and knowingly about Larry Mednick - musician, sculptor and Renaissance man. His passing will be felt most keenly throughout Hampton Roads, for his life here was dedicated, both as a performer and a patron, to creating a cultural oasis from which we all have benefited.
Larry was second violinist with the Feldman Quartet, the original ensemble that was to become Young Audiences of Virginia, the arts-in-education organization designed to introduce students to the magic of live performers. His commitment to furthering an appreciation of the arts made him realize that to have a culturally educated population, we must have culturally educated young people.
Young Audiences will always be grateful to Larry Mednick for that initial endeavor that helped build the audiences of tomorrow, today,
