Ira E. Barber, of the 100 block of Wyoming Ave., died Jan. 24, 1996, in his home.
He was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as an equipment specialist where he worked for 30 years. He was a native of Jamesville, N.C., and a member of the Christian Hope Church and the Portsmouth Naval Masonic Lodge (NU)100.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Daisy Leona Barber; two daughters, Anne B. Clayton of Richmond and Bettie Lou Grayson of Morehead City, N.C.; three grandchildren, Jennifer A. Clayton of Norfolk, Khristanne K. Clayton of Radford and Christopher B. Grayson of Morehead City.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. John Grayson. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Portsmouth Unit, 2730 Ellsmere Ave., Norfolk, Va. 23513.
