Can I believe my eyes? On Jan. 9, columnist Thomas Sowell asserts that college and university presidents support the on-campus enforcement of the ``mind-set and methods'' of Maoist China.'' He also says that ``little propaganda ministers'' are stationed in college dorms to ``monitor political correctness'' and that students who object to using ``co-educational bathrooms and showers'' in ``some'' (unspecified) dorms, are ``belittled for prudishness.''
What? Is all this widespread? Have I been sleeping?
Further, there was some round-about logic and poorly stated idea by adequately fed columnist Suzanne Fields to the effect that cutting off welfare payments to single mothers and hungry kids would eventuate in higher marks for kids at school.
Also, on the same page (What a day!), William Safire, Nixon's old speech writer, uses Bob Dole's muttering of a single word ``giveaway,'' in regard to the telecommunications bill, as evidence that this prince of big money and corporate favors is for the little guy. Try reading: Senator for sale - available at your local bookstore.
Congratulations! On a single day and page, your paper effectively showcased the insanity, stupidity, self-serving misdirection and moral vacuity of today's crop of so-called ``conservatives.''
