Frederick Carroll ``Fred'' Taylor died Jan. 26, 1996.
He was predeceased by his parents, Russell B. and Daisy W. Taylor. He was a member of South Norfolk Baptist Church and also a member of Disabled Veterans of America.
Mr. Taylor served in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II in the Pacific Operations, including the IwoJima campaign, where he witnessed the historic raising of the American flag above Mount Suribachi. He was trained as a paramarine and was in Spearhead Division V. He was a rifle instructor at Parris Island, S.C., and also served in the Korean War.
He is survived by a son, Frederick Kent Taylor of Chesapeake; and a daughter, Lynne Taylor Garthright of Norfolk; a sister, Grace T. Mitchell of Virginia Beach; a brother, Wallace W. Taylor of Portsmouth; a granddaughter and a grandson of Virginia Beach; and a granddaughter and a grandson of Chesapeake.
Visitation will be Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, where a funeral service will be conducted Monday, Jan. 29, 1996, at 2 p.m. by Chaplain Bron Forrester. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will be at 909 Swain Ave., Chesapeake, following the service.
