On Jan. 13, I was on my way to take my 15-year-old son to DMV to take the test for his learner's permit. We decided to go through the drive-through window at Hardee's to get breakfast first.
We were about three cars back from the place where orders are taken, when a car came up behind us and then pulled up beside us instead. My son was concerned that this driver might be getting ready to cut in front of us in line. I explained that the other driver probably pulled up so his car wouldn't be blocking the driveway of Hardee's. When the cars in front moved up, this driver waited for us to pull up. By then, another car was behind us, and I figured that he might have trouble getting in line at all, so I motioned for him to go ahead of us in line. I remarked that now my son would have a few extra minutes to study his driver's manual.
When we got up to the window, the attendant refused to take any money. She explained that the man in front of us had paid for our breakfast!
My son was greatly impressed by this stranger's act of gratitude. I want to thank him for unknowingly teaching my son a valuable lesson about the contagious nature of kindness on the highway of life.
