Norman L. Ewell Sr., 87, of the 8100 block of Merritt St., went to be with the Lord on Jan. 27, 1996.
Mr. Ewell, a native of Princess Anne County, Va., retired from the U.S. Customs as a law enforcement officer. He was a charter member of Hyde Park Free Will Baptist Church. He was the first church treasurer; a member of the Board of Trustees; and chairman of the Usher Board. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for the past 50 years and current member of Norview Lodge (NU)113. Mr. Ewell was a Army veteran and served during World War II. He was a friend to many and a very devoted husband and father.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian Lineberry ``Mickey'' Ewell; a daughter, Louise E. Matula of Norfolk; two sons, Norman L. Ewell Jr. of Chesapeake and Bobby G. Ewell of New Bern, N.C.; a sister, Melba E. Parker of Norfolk; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and stepdaughter, Linda L. Dewees of Milton, W.Va.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hyde Park Free Will Baptist Church by the Rev. Terry Beck. Burial is in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ``Missions'' at Hyde Park Free Will Baptist Church at 8501 Chesapeake Blvd., Norfolk, Va. 23503.
