A motorist who witnesses said drove around the lowered arms of a railroad crossing gate was seriously hurt when a train slammed into her car, police said.
The 19-year-old driver was flown by air ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Police identified her as Shemeka Hunt of the 300 block of South Division St.
The accident happened in the downtown area near the intersection of South Main and Hall streets.
