The article about the deer hunter (``Stalking the albino deer,'' Daily Break, Jan. 17) really bothered me and several other people I spoke with.
Indeed, the deer population does need a hunting season to control it - that I understand - but I fail to understand the need to kill something that is unique and beautiful! It would seem that a glimpse of this deer running through the woods would provide more of a thrill than to have its head mounted on some trophy wall!
Since you have publicized its presence, the albino deer is at an even greater risk.
I read or heard a story once about a fisherman's lifelong quest to catch a lake trout. He finally reeled him in only to realize that he had too much respect for the fish that had outsmarted him over the years, and he released him.
Unfortunately the bullet can't be retrieved like the hook can.
This deer should be allowed to live. Then others can experience the thrill of seeing it run through the woods next season.
