Lewis Willard Hurst, 65, of the 3000 block of Main St., and formerly of Norfolk, died Jan. 27, 1996, at his son's home in Norfolk.
Mr. Hurst was born in Norfolk and retired as a lieutenant from the Norfolk Police Department after 19 years. He was on the Virginia Crime Commission and the Virginia State Parole Board. He graduated from the F.B.I. National Academy. He was a veteran of the Army and served in the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Jayin Saulnier Hurst of Chincoteague; two daughters, Robin H. Briggs of Petersburg, Va., and Stacy E. Sutton of Tucson, Ariz.; three sons, Scott A. Hurst of Norfolk and Randal W. Hurst of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., Mark H. Hurst of Calabash, N.C.; three brothers, Ruben Hurst and Linwood Hurst, both of Nelson County, Va., and Stanley Hurst of Norfolk; 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, ``Kit'' Hurst, a Norfolk police officer killed in the line of duty.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family will be at Smith & Williams Norfolk Chapel from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday for visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Virginia Public Safety Fund, P.O. Box 15177, Richmond, Va. 23227. This fund is to benefit children of police officers killed in the line of duty and for scholarships for children of active duty police officers.
