In a Jan. 23 story, The Virginian-Pilot reported that Irma Ziehr
was sentenced to 30 days in jail after she was convicted of
involuntary manslaughter. Ziehr had been charged with second-degree
murder in the death of a passenger in a Jeep that Ziehr's car
collided with.
The newspaper reported that Ziehr intentionally rammed the Jeep,
which police and prosecutors alleged. Defense attorneys, however,
argued that Ziehr did not cause the accident.
Jury foreman Steven M. Miceli said that while the jurors found
Ziehr acted negligently ``and without regard for the safey or
well-being of the lives of the persons involved,'' they did not find
that her action was intentional.
The body of Jesse J. Spencer Jr. was found Saturday in a ditch in
the Western Branch area of Chesapeake. A MetroNews story Monday had
his name wrong in several references.
Two stories in Sunday's MetroNews section about an Eastern
Virginia Medical School program should have referred to the program
as The Glennan Center for Geriatrics. Also, Virginia Glennan
Ferguson, who made an endowment to the center, is from Virginia
Beach, not Norfolk.
A MetroNews story Monday about Virginia Beach neighborhoods left
out the full name and title of Andrew M. Friedman, director of the
Virginia Beach Department of Housing and Neighborhood Preservation.
The Retired Educators Association will meet at noon Thursday at
the Doubletree Club Hotel, Military Circle in Norfolk. A wrong name
for the hotel appeared in the Tidewater Notes on Sunday and Monday.
For information about the meeting, call 853-1176.
