The Outer Banks has been selected as the site of the 1996 annual meeting for the Travel Council of North Carolina.
Dare County Tourist Bureau officials announced Monday that the meeting, which draws tourism-related businesses from across North Carolina, will be held Oct. 27-29.
The Travel Council of North Carolina is an umbrella organization for the state's $8 billion tourism industry. Its members include convention and visitor bureaus, chambers of commerce, attractions, restaurants, hotels, real estate companies and media, for example.
The bureau submitted a bid for hosting the meeting last fall, and was selected over other coastal communities in the state. The host hotel will be the Ramada Inn, while the Sanderling Inn Resort & Conference Center will host the Travel Council's executive board meeting.
Tourism & Marketing Director Rebecca Moore, who submitted the proposal on behalf of the Outer Banks, said up to 200 people could attend the annual meeting.
``Generating 400 room nights the last week in October will be a nice boost to fall's tourism economy,'' she said, adding, ``We hope to encourage participants to stay the entire week to enjoy fall fishing, or other recreational activities.'' by CNB
