Will Robinson resigned Monday as head football coach at Norview after two seasons marked by run-ins with officials.
Robinson, whose record was 8-12, was ejected from the season-finale against Booker T. Washington in 1994 and forced to sit out the season-opener last fall.
``Due to philosophical differences with the administration of Norview and other career opportunities, I feel that it is best for me and the program at this time to leave,'' Robinson said.
Robinson said he has job interviews set up for coaching positions at two Division I universities, but declined to name the schools.
``I think the program is in better shape than when I got here,'' he said. ``We've had five kids acquire scholarships in the last two years and we've had very competitive teams. This upcoming year there should be a championship team coming back with 21 starters returning.''
The highlight of Robinson's tenure occurred in 1994 when Wayne Bacon set South Hampton Roads' all-time, single-game rushing record of 427 yards against Kellam.
Robinson's departure leaves four head coaching jobs open in South Hampton Roads. The other openings are at Lake Taylor, Hickory and Great Bridge.
Dan Newell, an assistant at Maury, is reportedly the frontrunner for the Lake Taylor job. ILLUSTRATION: Will Robinson: ``I think the program (at Norview) is in better
