December home sales up from year-earlier period

Local home sales went up to 1,245 during December 1995, a 19 percent increase over December 1994, according to the Virginia Home Sales Survey released by the Virginia Association of Realtors. Pending home sales in Hampton Roads for the year, however, were flat. There were 21,789 single-family houses under contract in 1995 compared with 21,423 for 1994. That's a slight increase of 1.7 percent. Pending sales, houses that have been sold but have not closed, are the best indicator of local sales.
