VALUE EDUCATION

I was watching the news and saw something that greatly disturbed me. People were actually getting angry because some schools were open on Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday to make up a snow day. I think it rather ironic that schools are ever closed on this day. King was a great leader and a firm believer in education. I would think it a greater honor to him if everyone was in school and learning on this day.

In the same thought, it is strange that on the birthday of Abraham Lincoln - the man who walked miles for books to read - our libraries are closed.

This country makes less sense every day. We need to value education more than we value the occasional day off.
