I opened my newspaper, and what should greet my eyes for the third day in a row but an editorial page devoted to the recent firing of Duane Harding. This is a rather interesting commentary on the priorities of this area. It amazes me to no end that three days' worth of letters could be written about the firing of one man. I have one question for all of the people outraged over this: Where have you been the past few months?
Where were all of you when AT&T laid off 40,000 employees? Where were you when the government shut down and left all of those ``unessential workers'' with nothing to do? Why the uproar over one man when so many others are in the same situtation?
Had the same number of people in this area written President Clinton or their congressman regarding the budget, maybe something would have been done by now.
We live in a society where the people show no interest in how the government is run. Huge numbers of people sit at home on Election Day. But heaven forbid a local weatherman be fired!
