MELVENIA C. SMITH

Melvenia C. Smith of the 1000 block of Willingham St. died Jan. 28, 1996, in her residence.

She was a retired nursery supervisor for Naval Station Day Care Center. She was a native of Norfolk and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She was past matron of Rising Sun Chapter (NU)32 Order of Eastern Star PHA of Virginia.

She is survived by her husband, Wilbur Smith; two daughters, Gwendolyn Smith Davis of Norfolk and Oakley Smith Branch of Washington, D.C.; son, Larry Smith of Hampton; sister, Delores Parker of Norfolk; brother, Joseph Butler Jr. of Norfolk; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday by the Rev. William H. Crews in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Friends may join the family at the residence. The body will be taken to church at 10 a.m. Graves Funeral Home is in charge. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
