FERRIS E. BOATWRIGHT SR.

Ferris E. ``Gene'' Boatwright, 69, of the 300 block of Green St., died Jan. 30, 1995 in a Portsmouth hospital.

He was a boatswains mate in the U.S. Navy and retired in 1965 after 18 years of service. He was born in Cross City, Fla. He was a member of McCall's Chapel United Methodist Church, Branford, Fla., and the Fleet Reserve Association.

He is survived bu his wife, Betty J. Boatwright; four daughters, Margaret Duckwall of Smithfield, Johnnye Ponte, Susan Alphin and Sharon Oliver, all of Portsmouth; two sons, Richard Lynch of Charleston, S.C., Ferris E. Boatwright Jr. of Portsmouth; and two brothers, John Boatwright of Jesup, Ga., Carl Boatwright of Gainesville, Fla.; fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Snellings Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, Dr. Robert Forehand presiding. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
