Two men robbed a clerk at the Whalebone Junction 7-Eleven store at gunpoint Tuesday shortly before midnight.
Police said the pair escaped on foot, and were still at large Wednesday evening.
``This is a rarity for the Outer Banks,'' Nags Head Police Chief Charles Cameron said Wednesday. The last armed robbery in Nags Head was about five years ago.
According to Cameron, two men in their early 20s entered the convenience store in south Nags Head at 11:50 p.m. One of the men pulled a gun on the clerk and stole an unspecified amount of cash from the store. No injuries were reported, Cameron said.
The store's video camera recorded the robbery.
Witnesses said both suspects were wearing dark clothing and hooded sweat shirts. One man was ``short,'' the other was about 6-feet.
No attempt was made to pursue the suspects, who were last seen running east.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Outer Banks Crime Line at 1-800-745-2746 or the Nags Head Police Department at 919-441-6386.
