In 1995, it was my honor and privilege to serve the community in which I was born and raised as volunteer chairman for the United Way of South Hampton Roads campaign. Throughout the region, volunteers, organizations and contributors who gave through the local United Way, Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) and Combined Virginia Campaign (CVC) rallied to achieve another successful community fund drive. The combined efforts of these campaigns raised a total of $15.4 million to support programs provided by local human-service agencies, and through the CFC and CVC to service organizations around the world.
I am grateful to the thousands of volunteers who gave their time and resources toward this community effort. Their commitment is an important example for others to follow. I am grateful too to the many thousands of local contributors for their generous contributions. Together, we're making sure help is there when it is needed most.
