North Carolinians disposed of more waste last year than ever before, according to a preliminary state report on waste figures.
Residents and businesses threw away more than 7.6 million tons of waste in fiscal year 1994-95, equal to more than a ton per person, the report said.
Last year's total is the same amount of waste per person as in fiscal year 1991-92. Minimal progress toward achieving the state's waste reduction goal was made during the intervening years.
A final report on the status of solid waste reduction and disposal will be available in the spring. by CNB
