VIRGINIA NATURAL GAS TOLD TO REFUND $3.8 MILLION

Virginia Natural Gas Inc. has been ordered by the State Corporation Commission to refund about $3.8 million of a $9.9 million general rate hike that went into effect Oct. 1, 1994.The order cuts the rate increase from 6.2 percent to 3.8 percent. Norfolk-based VNG, a unit of Consolidated Natural Gas Co., will make the refund as a credit on customers' future bills. The commission said the refund will amount to about $17 plus interest for the gas utility's average residential customer. VNG still has another general rate case pending before the commission seeking $4.4 million or about a 3 percent increase. (Staff) by CNB
