I would like to second the views of Peter W. Rowe (``We are overexploiting fisheries,'' Another View, Dec. 30): Local fishermen must be considered as a part of the worldwide picture of marine life. Short-term gains must be sacrificed to the larger goal of maintaining a natural resource.
Sport and commercial fishermen need to work together if they hope to have a healthy marine resource in the future.
