300 YEARS, DOWN: In the Thoroughgood area of Virginia Beach, a pine

tree - whose age is estimated at 300 years - fell under the weight

of ice on its branches. Marguerite Dickerson, whose house is in the

tree's yard, explored its expanses Friday afternoon.

NO CONTACT ALLOWED: After ice weighed down branches and brought them

into contact with power lines in Norfolk's Lakewood neighborhood,

Daryl Wright stepped in. Wright, a Norfolk resident who works with

Asplundh Tree Expert Co., trimmed back the branches along Lakewood

Drive on Friday.
