Prince Albert ``P.A.'' Herring, 78, of 5128 Dominion Drive, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 1996, in a Portsmouth hospital.
He was a native of Bladen County, N.C., and was employed at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Suffolk. He was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a shipfitter supervisor. He was also retired from Electrolux. where he was a manager and salesman for 36 years. He was a member and deacon of the Nansemond River Baptist Church and he was the former worshipful Master of Churchland Masonic Lodge (NU)27. He was also a member of Esther Chapter (NU)37 Order of Eastern Star.
He is survived by his wife, Mary H. Herring; daughter, Juanita Phillips of Chesapeake; son, Kenneth W. Herring of Stafford, Va.; two stepsons, James A. Turner of Chesapeake, Timothy S. Turner of Glen Allen, Va.; two sisters, Katie Gooden of Tar Heel, N.C., Flossie Allen of Charlotte, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Jennifer Herring, Donald Phillips and Jonathan Phillips.
A funeral service with Masonic Rites will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Nansemond River Baptist Church by the Rev. Timothy L. Piland and the Rev. Paul Forrester. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Nansemond River Baptist Church.
