BANK ROBBER GETS AWAY

No one was injured Friday when a man with a double-barrel shotgun robbed a bank on Diamond Springs Road, police said.

The robbery occurred about 10:45 a.m. at the Signet Bank when the man walked in, announced the robbery, then jumped over the counter and removed money from the teller stations.

The man got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police believe he might have robbed the same bank Jan. 18. They also believe he could have been involved in several similar robberies in Hampton Roads and possibly Richmond.

He is described as black, age 19 to 21. He is 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 8 and weighs 150 to 160 pounds. He was wearing a jean jacket and dark jeans and a ski mask.

The man left the area in a late-model compact Ford Escort type car.

Anyone with information on the identity of this suspect is asked to call Virginia Beach Crime Solvers at 427-0000.

Callers do not have to give their names and could be eligible for up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
