THE VIRGINIAN-PILOT Copyright (c) 1996, Landmark Communications, Inc. DATE: Monday, February 5, 1996 TAG: 9602010015 SECTION: FRONT PAGE: A6 EDITION: FINAL TYPE: Letter LENGTH: Short : 31 lines
I have been reading the Virginian-Pilot for more than 20 years. I have progressed from the Comics page as a small child to the World News section as a young adult. As a political studies student at Old Dominion University, I look to the paper to further increase my knowledge.
Your coverage of President Clinton's State of the Union address insulted my intelligence. The president in fact did not have six challenges for America, as the front page of the paper suggested. President Clinton spoke of seven challenges. Your coverage left out No. 5 . . . the environment. This is a tragedy to the environment and journalism as a whole.
Not everyone had a chance to see the address firsthand, and looked to the paper for knowledge. By omitting this issue, you cheat and deprive the people of Hampton Roads of knowledge.
The environment deserves respect. If I continue to see such poor journalism and lack of respect for the environment, I will no longer look to the paper for knowledge. In my mind it's beginning to look like the comics should be on the front page, because the paper is becoming a joke!
