SYBIL K. PENDRY

Sybil Marie Kinney Pendry went to Heaven to be with our Lord on Feb. 4, 1996.

She was predeceased by her loving father, Curtis William Kinney, who will be waiting with his open arms to welcome her as his newest angel.

She is survived by her mother, Donna Lou Kinney of Thomasville, N.C.; her sisters, Joyce Wood and Margaret Tysmger of North Carolina; her brother, Jim Kinney of Texas; her nephews, Curtis Tysmger and Steve Tysmger; her nieces, Sherri Tobinski, Sue Overman, Brenda Tysmger; three great-nieces; a great-nephew; and a great one on the way. She is also survived by her daughter, Brenda Pendry and her precious granddaughter, Courtney. She will also be missed dearly by her beloved friends, Dolores, Beverly, Connie, Rena, Jeffrey, Drew, Shannon and Karen Burns.

She was a true joy and inspiration to all of those whose path she crossed. She passed in the loving atmosphere of De Paul Hospital, with her loved ones at her side. She was born and raised in Thomasville, N.C., and she had made Norfolk her home for the past 40 years. She retired from the government after 35 years of faithful service under many commands including NRFC, CINCLANT FLT, PERSPACT, and FAADCLANT. She was an advocate of women in sports and in 1980 organized the Northside Women's Tennis League ``For Women Only.'' She was president of the Ocean View Women's Golf Association, a member of Stumpy Lake Women's Golf and a member of the Metro Women's Golf Association. She participated in the Senior Olympics and in 1990 won a gold medal for her 60-64 round. She was also a member of the ``Mended Hearts'' since 1986, the Ocean View Eastern Star Chapter 34, and in 1987, when her granddaughter, Courtney, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, she became an active volunteer for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church by Pastor Dan Quiram on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Music will be provided by Mr. Lee Hendricks.
