MAN SOUGHT IN ATTACK

Detectives are looking for a man who, while posing as a utility worker, attacked an 11-year-old girl Tuesday morning.

Police spokesman Lou Thurston said the assault occurred in the area of the 2500 block of Virginia Beach Blvd. about 11:30 a.m.

Thurston said the girl, who was not identified because of her age, was walking near a bridge when a man called to her saying he was a utility worker. He told her he needed help finding a piece of equipment and offered to pay her five dollars. When she went to him, the man put his hand over her mouth, threatened her, pushed her to the ground and fondled her. He then ran away.

The girl then went to a nearby business, where police were called. She helped provide a description of her attacker, Thurston said.

He was described as a white man in his mid-30s, between 6 and 6 foot 1, with a slender build. He had dirty blond hair, a moustache and appeared scraggly.

He was last seen wearing a tan leather jacket and dark blue jeans.
