John R. Davis
NORFOLK - John Randolph Davis, 91, of the 1000 block of Covington Lane, died Feb. 6, 1996, in a Norfolk hospital.
Mr. Davis was a native of Roanoke, Va., and a resident of Norfolk for most of his life. He was a member, and register and six term vestryman of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Norfolk, and its former scout master of troop 32 for 15 years. He also established St. Andrews Adult Bible Class and taught Sunday school for the church. He is a 1929 War School graduate of the University of Virginia Law. He practiced law for 43 years originially with the law firm of Phipps and Davis and subsequently with Davis and Boyd and retired from the firm of Boyd and Boyd PC, Law Firm in 1970.
Mr. Davis was a member of Wally Byam Caravan Club International and charter member of the Virginia Unit and the Tidewater Virginia Unit. He was past president of the Virginia Highland Haven Airstream Park. Mr. Davis continued working on the Tidewater Boy Scout Council and was a member of the Operating Board of The Episcopal Church Home for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Elinor Dobke Davis of Norfolk; four daughters, Mary Elizabeth Barnes and her husband, Robert of Bethelem, Pa., Elna Ronile Haught and her husband, Larry, of Freeport, Pa., Martha Lillian Rogers and her husband, Daniel, of Richmond, Va., Karen Elaine Harvey and her husband, Lt. Col. John Harvey, U.S.A., retired, of St. Augustine, Fla.; a son, John Randolph Davis Jr. and his wife, Marion of Colonial Heights, Va.; and 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A church service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church by the Rev. Charles Joy. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, today from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrews Episcopal Church or The American Cancer Society, Tidewater Chapter. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk will be handling the arrangements.
