A steady warm-up should bring a meltdown over the next few days.
For the first time since Hampton Roads' back-to-back ice and snow storms, the mercury may not dip below the freezing mark today.
That's a sharp change from early Wednesday, when an overnight low of 13 tied the record for the date set in 1910.
And forecasts through the weekend call for temperatures to continue to slowly moderate.
If you are traveling to Richmond or points west or north, however, take care. A winter weather advisory is in effect for the area, including Washington.
A mix of light freezing rain and sleet were expected across much of the mid-Atlantic region overnight. ``Adding to the chances of icy roads is the fact that the ground has become very cold during this harsh winter,'' the National Weather Service said Wednesday.
Locally, only some showers are likely. And with temperatures expected to rise overnight from the mid-30s, many of the region's snow-covered secondary roads may start to clear by this morning.
Today should be cloudy, breezy and milder, with a 40 percent chance of showers and a high in the mid- to upper 50s.
Scattered showers are likely tonight. The low should be in the mid- to upper 30s with winds at 15 to 20 mph.
Finally, on Friday, the sun should be peeking through, with a high in the lower 50s. by CNB
