For 24 hours my household returned to a quieter, simpler time, with a battery-powered radio the most-advanced technology available. The family gathered around the fire and actually talked to one another, at one point vowing to turn off the electricity one day a week.
But enough is enough! The return of the various household hums is music to my ears. I am grateful to Virginia Power for its efforts. I wouldn't be an Early American for all the tea in the Boston Harbor.
