ROBERT A. YOUNG JR.

Robert A. Young Jr., 52, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 1996, at his residence.

Mr. Young, born in Greensboro, N.C., was a resident of the Outer Banks for 46 years. He was the owner and operator of the Young People Realty and Tanarama Motel of Kill Devil Hills. ``Bob'' Young, a well-known real estate sales management broker, was instrumental in the development of many subdivisions on the Outer Banks and was a pioneer in rental property management in the area. He was a member of the Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church, a graduate of Manteo High School in 1961, and attended East Carolina University. He was a lifetime member of the Dare County Board of Realtors and a member of the State and National Board of Realtors for over 25 years. Mr. Young was a former member of the Kill Devil Hills Board of Commissioners in the 60's, being the youngest member ever to be elected to that board. He was also past vice president of the Dare County Jaycees, a member of the Kill Devil Hills Volunteer Fire Dept., and the Kill Devil Hills Auxiliary Police Dept. He served six years with the N.C. National Guard, from 1966 to 1972. Mr. Young was known to help those who needed help and was well thought of and loved by many people. He was a friend to all he came in contact with.

Mr. Young is survived by his wife, Virginia P. ``Ginger'' Young of the home; daughter, Melissa M. Young of Kill Devil Hills; two stepdaughters, Natalie Cologgi of Morehead City, N.C., and Anna Gillahan of Greenville, N.C.; son, Robert A. ``Rob'' Young III of Kill Devil Hills; stepson, Chris Ballance of Elizabeth City; sister, Tanya Young of Hendersonville, N.C.; and four step-grandchildren. Mr. Young is the son of the late Robert A. Young Sr. and the late Mary York Young.

Funeral services will be held at Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo, Saturday at noon by the Rev. Richard Lamphear and the Rev. David Daniels. Entombment will follow in the Roanoke Island Memorial Gardens, Manteo. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Dare County Unit, P.O. Box 215, Kill Devil Hills, N.C. 27948.
