A rabid raccoon - the second in five days - was discovered this week in First Landing/Seashore State Park by a woman walking her two dogs.
The dogs killed the raccoon before their owner was exposed to the rabid animal. Although the dogs have current rabies vaccinations, they will receive a rabies booster and be confined at home for 90 days.
It marked the 41st reported case of rabies in Virginia Beach since 1992. Most of the cases have involved raccoons and dogs.
Residents are advised by the Health Department to report all animal bites or contact between pets and wild animals. by CNB
