A `FISH' EVERYONE WANTED TO TOSS BACK INTO DEEPER WATERS

ILLUSTRATION: Staff photo by DREW C. WILSON

Most anglers would consider a 40-foot fish a real trophy. But Freddy

the fin whale who spent his week aground on a Pamlico Sound sandbar

at Oregon Inlet, is one most folks would like to toss back - into

deeper waters. Freddy was lying helpless in about 3 feet of frigid

water. At least 18 inches of the whale's black back was sticking

above the sound.
