City Council meetings are telecast live beginning at 7 p.m. on Municipal Access TV/Channel 13 on Falcon Cable. Telecast is repeated at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. The work session on the fourth Wednesday is taped and aired at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. the following Thursday through Sunday.
The City Council took the following actions at its meeting Wednesday:
A. Consideration of an ordinance amending Section 16-3 of the Code of the City of Suffolk, which regulates the operation of trucks and carriers on certain streets in the city - First Reading No vote on first reading
A. An ordinance accepting and appropriating state funds in the amount of $17,196 for salary increases for the Constitutional officers, their employees and the Registrar - Second Reading. Approved, 7-0
B. An ordinance accepting and appropriating a grant award of $10,000 from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles for the highway safety project titled Main Street Corridor Project - Second Reading. Approved, 7-0C. An ordinance accepting and appropriating a grant award of $2,500 from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles for the highway safety project titled Accident Investigation Team - Second Reading. Approved, 7-0
D. An ordinance appropriating $50,000 from the Unappropriated Fund balance for a Management Study - Second Reading. Approved, 7-0
E. An ordinance to appropriate $123,000 in Community Development Block Grant Funds for the 1995-96 Program year - Second Reading. Approved, 7-0
F. An ordinance accepting and appropriating a grant award of $2,965 from the Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services and transferring $741 from the CIP Cable Equipment Fund for the purchase of Assistive Listening Device Equipment for the Council Chambers - First Reading. No vote on first reading
G. An ordinance accepting and appropriating $133,000 or so much as may be received, from the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Aviation and appropriating $67,000 General Fund designated fund balance for airport capital improvements projects - First Reading. No vote on first reading
H. An ordinance authorizing the submission, acceptance and appropriation of $34,584 in grant funds for the Enhancing Drug Enforcement and Prosecution Grant - First Reading. No vote on first reading
I. An ordinance to appropriate $230,000 from Undesignated Retained Earnings of the Utility Fund for EDR electrode/membrane replacement - First Reading. No vote on first reading
A. Resolution authorizing the city to convey in fee a section of property located at the intersection of Sleepy Hole Road and Nansemond Parkway to the Virginia Department of Transportation for the purpose of a road improvement right of way. Approved, 7-0
B. Resolution agreeing to request the Virginia Department of Transportation to close Nansemond Parkway temporarily for the purpose of replacing the roadway over the abandoned CXS railroad tracks. Approved, 7-0
C. Resolution amending the State Secondary Road System to vacate a portion of Respass Beach Road and to add the relocated Respass Beach Road. Approved, 7-0
D. Resolution supporting a dedicated funding source for public transportation in the Hampton Roads region. Approved, 7-0
A. Establish a special City Council Work Session to discuss the operating budget for Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 3 p.m. unless cancelled. Approved, 7-0
