My wife and I attended the open house at the Harrison Opera House. I went because I was dragged, but as it turned out I was happy that I did go. There was entertainment galore, ranging from opera to vaudeville.
The high point of the evening was presented by Hugh Copeland and some members of the Hurrah Players. I remember Hugh as the master of ceremonies in Cabaret, which played at the old Riverview Theater and then later at the Wells Theater. That show was so good that I saw it three times, but I digress.
The Opera House show consisted of boys and girls in their early teens portraying such famous entertainers as Barbra Streisand, Dolly Parton, James Brown, Tina Turner and many others. Every facial and body movement was perfection.
Mr. Copeland has a knack for passing on his talents to these children. Hurrah for him and the Hurrah Players. They are one of Norfolk's natural resources.
