Lillian Vernon Corp.'s $36.8 million warehouse project was the largest expansion undertaken last year in South Hampton Roads, the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce said.
The chamber said 62 southside companies disclosed expansions last year costing $138.8 million in total and covering 2.07 million square feet. The expanding firms added 2,873 full- and part-time employees.
In spending, the four largest expansions accounted for two-thirds of the capital investment. The four largest - Allied Colloid, Lillian Vernon, Mitsubishi Chemical, Stihl Inc., - totaled $92.5 million.
