ELLA B. GRIFFIN

Ella ``Poolie'' Burke Griffin, of the 800 block of Edinburg Street, died Friday, Feb. 9, 1996.

She was born in Elizabeth City, N.C., to the late Jessie Mae Marie Burrus. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Berkley, Norfolk, where she served as a choir member, Sunday School teacher and Bible School teacher. She was also a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Chesapeake, Virginia Beach Chapter. She retired from the Chesapeake public school system.

Survivors include one son, Darren B. Griffin of Chesapeake; one grandson, Darren Banks of Newark, N.J.; one granddaughter, Nikki Payne of Baton Rouge, La.; one aunt, Eva Mae Griffin of Chesapeake; three uncles, Paul Griffin of Chesapeake, Sansbury Burke of Newark, N.J., and Claude McMullin of Boston, Mass.; two great-aunts, Rovena Barlett of Manhattan, N.Y., and Mary Francis Perry James of Woodville, N.C.; and cousins, Oliver Griffin and Oliver Cromartie, both of Chesapeake.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Berkley by the Rev. Theodore Little. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Elizabeth City. Walson Funeral Home Inc., Elizabeth City, is handling the arrangements.
