Chessie L. Ellison, 61, of the 200 block of Armstrong St., died Feb. 9, 1996, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk.
She was a retired housekeeper at Woodrow Wilson High School for the Portsmouth City Public School System. She was a native of Bethel, N.C. She was member, usher and church mother of St. Paul Deliverance C.O.C.D. Church, Norfolk.
She is survived by her husband, Charlie L. Ellison of Portsmouth; six daughters, Dianne E. Madison, Brenda McKeithan, Yvette Britt, Annetta Ellison and Kim Powell, all of Portsmouth, and Lena M. Smith of Virginia Beach; son, Donald Ellison of Portsmouth; sister, Anna Crawford of Staunton, Va.; four brothers, James Wiggins, Nathan Wiggins, both of North Carolina, Alton Wiggins of South Carolina, and John Lee Wiggins of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 23 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Charlie L. Ellison Jr. She is survived by a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. James G. Smith in New Mount Zion A.M.E. Church, 113 Seekel St., Norfolk. Burial is in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 2 p.m. today. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
