SAMUEL A. RUTH JR.

Samuel Anderson Ruth Jr., 82, of the 3900 block of South St., died Feb. 12, 1996.

He was a retired engineering technician for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Mr. Ruth was a native of Weldon, N.C., and a member of Cottage Place United Methodist Church. He was past master of Western Branch Masonic Lodge (NU)189 and Past High Priest of Port Norfolk Royal Arch Chapter.

He is survived by his wife, Alma C. Ruth; a son, Donald Wayne Ruth and his wife, Marsha D., of Portsmouth; a brother, Thomas B. Ruth and his wife, Hazel C., of Belair, Texas; and two grandchildren, Brian A. Ruth of Newport News and Kristin N. Filomarino of Portsmouth.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday by the Rev. James D. Thomas in Snellings Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Cottage Place United Methodist Church. Masonic rites will be accorded at the site.
