Police have identified a juvenile as a member of a gang suspected in the murder of a Portsmouth man Jan. 23.
Melvin Kinta Crawley, 16, also known as ``Boo,'' is considered armed and dangerous by the Portsmouth Police Department. Anyone with information about Crawley is asked to call Detective R.L. Simmons or Detective Melvin Hike at 393-8536.
Crawley is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall and 130 pounds with a slim build, medium brown skin and brown eyes. He may be in the Washington Park housing community or Bird Lane. Crawley is wanted for the murder of 29-year-old Mark A. Holley, who was shot in the neck behind a residence at 1119 Lansing Ave. on the night of Jan. 23. Holley ran to a nearby grocery store on South Street where he collapsed on the front porch. He was dead at the scene.
Holley's murder was the first in Portsmouth in 1996. The city set a murder record in 1995, with 37.
A companion of Holley escaped unhurt and told police that he and Holley were approached by at least four men, three of whom were wearing ski masks. Holley, the man said, was shot and then robbed.
Three men were arrested Jan. 26 and a fourth was arrested Jan. 27. A fifth gang member, Maurice Melson, turned himself in to police Feb. 5.
Also in custody are Ernest C. Scott Jr., 21, of the 800 block of Dorset Ave.; Michael L. Mcguire, 19, of the 900 block of Ann St.; Terry A. Kee, 20, whose address was not known; and Tywone Wilkins, 19, of the 600 block of Edwards St.
