Earl B. Pullen, executive director of the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority, will become executive director of the Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority.
SRHA Board Chairman Leroy Bennett said Monday that Pullen will start work here March 11.
The Suffolk board voted 4-3 in January to hire Pullen, but he had not formally accepted the post until after he and Bennett conferred Sunday about Pullen's remaining obligations in Charlottesville.
Pullen will be paid $57,500 and $2,400 for auto allowance, plus $2,900 in moving expenses.
Pullen, 50, has more than 20 years of housing management experience. The Roanoke native will be Suffolk's first African-American housing director. He was among 50 applicants for the post. He replaces James P. Armstrong, who left last December to pursue his doctoral degree. Armstrong had been with the authority nearly two years. by CNB
