BLUE ANGELS SHOW: Next month, the Navy's Blue Angels aerial demonstration team starts its 1996 season of 71 performances that includes a scheduled two-day visit to Norfolk April 20-21 for the International Azalea Festival. The performance in Virginia Beach for the Neptune Festival last fall had to be cut short because of training problems. This year the F/A-18 Hornet pilots are celebrating the Blue Angels' 50th anniversary, with performances in 21 states between March 16 and Nov. 9.

NAVAL MUSEUM EVENT: Ira Dye, author of the book ``The Fatal Cruise of the Argus'' will speak about one of the most notable engagements between two sailing ships during the War of 1812 - the U.S. frigate United States and HMS Maccdonian. The free lecture will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Living Seas Theater of Nauticus near Hampton Roads Naval Museum. For more information, call 444-8971.

CENTER TO RELOCATE: The Navy Housing Welcome Center at Janaf Shopping Center will close Saturday to relocate to Norfolk Naval Station. The center will reopen Tuesday at the Norfolk Personnel Support Mall. Welcome Center operations will be in Building SDA 337, a short walk from the Navy Lodge and Armed Forces Staff College on Hampton Boulevard. Telephone service will be interrupted during transfer of phones on Thursday.

HUNT FOR LOST MEMBERS: Three national veterans associations are searching for former members and shipmates. The Second (Indian Head) Division Association is searching for anyone who served in the division. For information, contact Bill Creech, P.O. Box 460, Buda, Texas 78610. Another group is looking for former ship's company, officers and members of Marine detachments of the cruiser Canberra who served aboard the ship from its commissioning, in 1943, to 1971. MILITARY YMCA EXPANDS: The Armed Services YMCA marks its 135th year in 1996 by expanding its network of programs and services, according to board chairman Charles E. Shearer Jr. The military YMCA is chartered to provide support to young enlisted men and women in the armed forces, especially those in the pay grades E-5 and below. Fifty program centers throughout the nation operate through a network of 19 Armed Services YMCA branches and affiliated community YMCAs. The group hopes to add new services as needs are identified by military leaders and as resources become available.

POSTCARDS EXHIBIT: More than 100 postcards highlighting naval life during the years 1905-1920 will be on display in an exhibit titled ``To My Loving Mother'' now through May 31 at the Hampton Roads Naval Museum. The display, which received its name from the back of one of the cards, is divided into four sections: Navy ships of the early 20th century, naval life, ships of the Great White Fleet, and views of Norfolk Naval Base during its early years. The exhibit, which is free, is located on the second floor of Nauticus. Museum hours are Monday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 444-8971, ext. 111.

AFRICAN-AMERICAN PRESENTATION: Fort Monroe's Casemate Museum has a special video presentation and exhibit this month in observance of African-American History Month. Visitors can go to the museum theater and see ``Fort Monroe and Black History.'' Also, the exhibit ``Black Soldiers in the Civil War'' is on display in the museum lobby.

FAMILY SERVICES

EMPLOYMENT WORKSHOP: Little Navy Family Services Center will offer a ``Job Seekers Workshop'' from 8:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 20 at the Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base. Separating or retiring military personnel will receive solid hints on interviewing and learn how to produce a good resume, as well as get listed in a national data base of job seekers.
