A grocery chain head office is moving cross town in Virginia Beach.
The Defense Commissary Agency's Central Region has moved its headquarters from the Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek to Bonney Road.
The relocation was prompted by the need to make room for a playground at Little Creek for military housing residents.
The DeCA, as it's called in military language, has been relocated to the Central Park office complex at 5151 Bonney Road. It occupies 20,122 square feet of office space in the property owned and managed by Waitzer Properties of Virginia Beach.
DeCA manages 31 military commissaries, essentially grocery stores for military personnel, in 11 states and employs 73 people.
A division of the Department of Defense, DeCA chose the Bonney Road site because of its location near other military bases and the availability of transportation facilities, including the Norfolk International Airport and interstate highways, said DeCA Central Region director Cecil Saunders.
``DeCA is the 7th largest grocery chain in the United States,'' Saunders said. ``Our employees travel constantly and need to have access to excellent connections.'' by CNB
