The Federal Aviation Administration gave the Peninsula Airport Commission a $632,059 grant Tuesday to retire debt it took on to build the passenger terminal building at Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport. The grant came as the airport reported that its passenger traffic jumped 36.8 percent in January. Thanks largely to ValuJet, the Atlanta-based low-fare airline that started flying from the airport last June, the number of passengers flying through the airport increased to 25,513 last month.
